What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign burst onto the orthodontia scene two decades ago, using digital scanning technology and clear aligners to revolutionize a process that had been known for its inconvenience: braces.

Since then, more than 9 million people have used Invisalign to straighten their teeth using Invisalign’s pain-free system.

The process is used in over 90 countries by more than 100 thousand trained orthodontists, including the Invisalign®-trained experts at Dental Image in Crown Point.

What Can Invisalign® Fix?

Invisalign® uses digital scans to map the teeth and a system of shapeable thin plastic aligners to mold the teeth into new positions over time. Because this is all done digitally, the molds can shift based on the particular issues of each mouth. This gives Invisalign® incredible versatility to treat numerous orthodontic issues, including:

Whether it’s one tooth or several, when you have crooked teeth, you know it. You see it. You feel it. At Dental Image, our trained specialists use Invisalign® to move your teeth in line faster and easier than braces, resulting in a confident smile (and less obsessively rubbing your tongue over that one tooth that sticks out funny).

Too tight? Not tight enough? Invisalign® can help create even spacing between your teeth, resulting in easier care and maintenance and a happier smile.

Crowded teeth happen when there’s not enough room in your jaw for your teeth to fit naturally, causing them to overlap. Bunching and twisting can also happen. These issues are more than just cosmetic. Over time, they allow bacteria, tartar, and plaque to build up in the bunched up areas. This can lead to gum disease, tooth decay, and other problems.

In addition to aesthetic issues, gap teeth allow food particles to get stuck in the gap. This can lead to gum irritation and even gum disease (not to mention your spinach salad lunch ruining your selfies).

Invisalign® can do more than just straighten teeth. It can also reshape the angle and position of your bite, eliminating multiple issues that could lead to tooth damage over time if left uncorrected.

An overbite is when the upper front teeth overlap the lower teeth at rest. Most of us have some overbite - generally between 5 and 25% is considered “optimal.” For those who fall outside that range, Invisalign® can correct the “deep bite” issues and bring your bite back into the optimal range.

If your lower teeth jut out in front of your upper teeth when you close your mouth, you have an underbite. This is usually because your lower jaw is further forward than most.

Underbites can cause numerous other issues, including difficulty speaking or enunciating, trouble chewing, and increased wear and tear on teeth. Invisalign® can fix many underbites, although in some cases surgery may still be required in combination with Invisalign® to get the desired effect.

Open bite happens when your back teeth touch, but your front teeth don’t - making your mouth open even when it’s closed. This can cause issues when biting into many common foods. Invisalign® can get your teeth leveled out to correct open bite issues and make it easier to sink your teeth into your favorite foods.

Crossbite is a combination of overbite and underbite, where some of your upper teeth are in front of the lower teeth and some are behind. Invisalign® reshapes your bite so that every tooth ends up in the right place.

How Does Invisalign® Work?

Invisalign® uses innovative digital scanning to develop custom see-through plastic aligners for your mouth. Using the Invisalign® system from the comfort of our Crown Point office, your Dental Image expert can tailor your Invisalign® treatment to meet your specific needs. As your mouth changes, new aligners will be sent to you on a specific schedule to maximize the speed of your treatment.

Your Invisalign® journey begins with a consultation with one of our Dental Image specialists in our Crown Point dental office. From there, we can use Invisalign®’s patented iTero Element® scanning technology to map your teeth and show you simulations of what the system can do for you within minutes. These simulations form the basis of your Invisalign® treatment plan.

Each treatment plan is customized to your individual needs and specifications, with your Dental Image Invisalign® expert leading the way. Their knowledge and experience will help guide you to fantastic results with precision-created molds that are made to fit your mouth through a completely digital process - no need to bite into anything nasty.

Invisalign® aligners are designed for comfort. They’re made out of a patented SmartTrack® material to feel great and fit your teeth perfectly, while each aligner is cut to match your gum line for a fit that’s created just for you.

Once your Invisalign® aligners have done their job, it’s time for the retainers to get to work. Invisalign®’s Vivera® retainers offer you the same comfort you’d expect from an Invisalign® product, only they work to keep your mouth in its new shape once your treatment is complete.
