The smile restoration specialists at Dental Image in Crown Point know that a cracked, chipped, broken or missing tooth is more than a mouth sensation problem. The way you chew, the way you speak, the way you smile, and your overall health can all be altered by tooth damage.
It can also change how you interact with others - and change how they see you, due to the stigma that still surrounds missing teeth. Long-lasting and versatile, dental crowns can make an incredible difference to the way your mouth looks and works - and the way it feels when you smile. Many of our dentists here at the Dental Image got into this business because of the way dental restoration can change lives, and denatl crowns are a big part of that transformation.
Dental crowns help restore your smile by placing a cap over the tooth or gap you would like to change. These tooth-shaped caps cover or “crown” the misshapen, damaged, chipped, cracked, or broken tooth. There are several types of dental crowns that can be chosen by you or your dentist, depending on the situation or desired effect:
With so many different uses and materials to choose from, it is important to rely on a knowledgeable expert to help guide you through the dental crown selection process.
Our smile restoration specialists at Dental Image are well-versed in the many different types of dental crowns and their best uses and are eager to help you select the best looking and most functional dental crown for your particular tooth issue. Dental crowns are among the handiest tools in the dentist’s toolbox. A dental crown can be purely cosmetic, or it can help solve some serious dental problems, including:
iTero is a new technological alternative to conventional, analog impressions. iTero allows us to scan and create digital impressions in half the time of a normal mold. With iTero we can create real-time simulations of treatment outcomes.
Each dental crown begins with a consultation and exam at the Dental Image’s relaxing and judgment-free Crown Point offices. There, you’ll meet with our smile restoration specialists, who will take digital x-rays to determine what kind of treatment will best meet your needs.
Once it is determined that a dental crown is the best path for you, our dentists will numb the area around the tooth with topical anesthesia and reshape the tooth to be able to receive its dental crown. Once that’s done, your tooth will be digitally analyzed and a dental crown will be made that fits its shape at a dental lab, which will take some time to arrive. During that time, a temporary dental crown will be put on the tooth to protect it and let you get used to the feel of the tooth.
Once the long-term dental crown arrives from the lab, you will return to Dental Image to have it implanted on the tooth. Your dentist will talk with you to make sure the fit was ok and that everything worked to your satisfaction. If everything checks out, the long-term dental crown will be affixed to the tooth in question.
Following your procedure, you will have some soreness. Your Dental Image specialists will provide you with a recovery timetable for your specific surgery, along with when you will be able to eat certain foods and return to normal care.
Once your recovery is complete, you will be able to maintain your dental crown with proper dental hygiene, just like any other tooth! Dental crowns typically last anywhere from 5 to 15 years. So, if you’re ready to make a change to a smile that lasts, please come see us. Our smile restoration specialists would love to bring back your beautiful smile!
